The Challenge

National Instruments' hardware validation was bottlenecked by scarce, expensive physical devices. Every test competed for a bench, and R&D throughput suffered for it.

Our Approach

We built software simulations of real hardware, covering multiple devices rather than a single reference unit.

That gave the lab the ability to test, reproduce and optimise in parallel instead of queueing for a bench.

Simulation also changes what is testable, not just how fast: a simulated device can be driven to edge cases and fault conditions that are slow, expensive or destructive to reproduce on physical hardware, and it reproduces them identically every run.

Work that previously waited on physical hardware could now happen long before anything ever hit a device, with the bench reserved for the validation that genuinely needs a real unit.
